FactCrumbs ("FactCrumbs," "we," "us," or "our") operates factcrumbs.com (the "Site"). This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected when you visit the Site, how it's used, and the choices you have. By using the Site, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

FactCrumbs does not require you to create an account, submit a form, or leave a comment to use the Site, and we do not directly collect personal information such as your name, email address, or payment details.

We do collect limited information automatically, through:

  • Basic access logs and analytics. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) automatically logs standard technical data for every visit, such as IP address, browser type, device type, referring page, and pages viewed. This is used in aggregate to understand traffic and keep the Site running reliably, not to identify individual visitors.
  • Advertising cookies from third parties. The Site displays ads served by advertising partners (such as Google AdSense and, as the Site grows, potentially Mediavine, AdThrive, or Ezoic). These companies use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads, including personalized ads based on your visits to this and other websites, and to measure ad performance. See Section 4 for details and your choices.

2. How We Use Information

The limited data described above is used to:

  • Operate, maintain, and secure the Site
  • Understand aggregate traffic patterns and which content is useful to readers
  • Allow our advertising partners to serve and measure ads, which is how FactCrumbs is funded

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use the data we have direct access to (aggregate traffic logs) to build individual profiles of visitors.

3. Legal Basis for Processing (EU/UK Visitors)

If you are located in the European Economic Area or the UK, our legal basis for the limited processing described above is our legitimate interest in operating and funding the Site through advertising, and, for non-essential cookies (including advertising cookies), your consent, which you can withdraw at any time using the cookie controls described in Section 4.

4. Cookies and Advertising

What cookies are used for. Advertising networks we work with place cookies in your browser to:

  • Serve ads, including ads personalized to your interests based on browsing activity
  • Limit how many times you see the same ad
  • Measure the effectiveness of ad campaigns
  • Detect and prevent fraudulent activity

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this Site and/or other sites on the internet. Google's own data practices for advertising are described in its Business Data Responsibilities policy and Privacy & Terms.

Your choices.

  • You can opt out of personalized advertising by Google by visiting Google Ads Settings.
  • If you're outside the US, you can also visit aboutads.info/choices or, in the EU, youronlinechoices.eu to opt out of participating vendors' personalized advertising.
  • Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings. Blocking cookies may still allow ads to display, just without personalization.

5. Third-Party Advertising Partners

As the Site grows, we may add advertising partners beyond Google AdSense (for example, Mediavine, AdThrive, or Ezoic). Any partner we add will have its own privacy policy governing how it uses data collected through its ads, and we will update this policy to reflect new partners as they're added.

6. Data Retention

Aggregate server/access logs are retained only as long as needed for security and operational purposes, per our hosting provider's standard retention practices. We do not maintain a separate database of visitor information beyond this.

7. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of personal information relating to you, and to object to or restrict certain processing (this includes rights under the GDPR for EU/UK residents and the CCPA/CPRA for California residents). Because FactCrumbs does not maintain accounts or collect personal information directly, most of these requests will concern data held by our advertising partners (see Section 4 for opt-out links) rather than data held by us. If you have a question about data practices specific to this Site, you can contact us using the details in Section 10.

California residents: we do not sell personal information as defined under the CCPA/CPRA. Some cookie-based advertising may be considered "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising under California law; you can opt out using the tools listed in Section 4.

8. Children's Privacy

FactCrumbs is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will address it.

9. International Visitors

The Site is hosted and operated with a US audience primarily in mind, but is accessible globally. If you access the Site from outside the United States, your information (to the limited extent described above) may be processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate.
